Summer at Nikkei Garden, presented by Nikkei Matsuri, would not have been possible without the contributions and support of so many people and organizations. We extend our immense gratitude to our sponsors, donors, staff, volunteers, photographers, attendees, and vendors.
When the pandemic started, we weren’t sure how we would proceed, and the idea of canceling our biggest community event and fundraiser in support of Nikkei National Museum & Cultural Centre loomed in the background. But it soon became clear that we could re-imagine the Nikkei Matsuri festival experience. With the help of everyone’s involvement, we were able to continue to share Japanese arts and culture through a multi-week in-person Japanese cultural marketplace and virtually on social media through our Matsuri Share initiative. Many rejoiced in having a small scale in-person event to experience, in the face of so many other events throughout the city being cancelled or running strictly online.
Thank you to our donors, and sponsors All Nippon Airways, the Government of Canada, Telus, and the Consulate General of Japan in Vancouver for supporting our efforts to bring the spirit of Nikkei Matsuri to the community during this unprecedented time.
Throughout the various weeks throughout August and September that Summer at Nikkei Garden took place, attendees were treated to delicious Japanese foods, merchandise from local businesses and artisans, performances, and a mini Game Zone. Thank you to our onsite Nikkei Place campus businesses Suzya and Hi Genki Restaurant, the NNMCC Auxiliary, vendors Baker & Table, Beauty Secrets of Japan, Coconama Chocolate, Kanadell Japanese Bakery, Kitchen Kodama, Mom’s Care, Oil, herb, and me, Pac West Kimono, Paper for You, Picchie Zakka, Sasaki Art, Shizuka Yoshimura Photography, Tea Lani, Vibrant Afternoon, Sleepy Froggy, Windigo Wraps, and Wren Creation, and performers Chibi Taiko, and Pico Misaki!
We also thank our talented photographers Tanku Neko Photography and Manto Artworks for capturing many memorable moments this year!
