Message from Consul General Hatori Takashi

Today, the international community is facing unprecedented hardships due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Long-awaited summertime cultural events are being cancelled, postponed, or downsized one after another, making this year anything but normal. I heartily welcome the forward-thinking initiatives of those involved to preserve and communicate Japanese culture and traditions in various ways amidst these challenging circumstances.

The road leading to Summer at Nikkei Garden must have been filled with obstacles. This opportunity was made possible thanks to the collaboration between the Nikkei Matsuri Executive Committee, who organized the occasion, and the Japanese Canadian community.

I hear that Summer at Nikkei Garden offers people the chance to spend summertime in the beautiful garden outside the Nikkei National Museum and Cultural Centre, to view displays related to Japanese culture, and to engage with Japanese culture online. Please have a wonderful time enjoying Japanese culture. My deepest gratitude goes out to the organizers, participants and volunteers for their great efforts.

Finally, I pray that the day will soon come when we can rest assured and spend our days happily and in good health together again.
