Masaki Yogi: The Master of Sanshin
Coming all the way from Miyako Island, Okinawa, Masaki Yogi is a renowned sanshin player, teacher, and craftsman. The sanshin, a three-stringed instrument with deep roots in Okinawan culture, is at the heart of Masaki’s artistry. Throughout the festival, Masaki will not only perform mesmerizing sanshin music but also offer workshops where attendees can learn to play this unique instrument. You can also explore his meticulously crafted sanshin instruments, which will be available for purchase, and even get your own sanshin repaired on-site. Don’t miss the opportunity to immerse yourself in the sounds and traditions of Okinawa with one of its true cultural ambassadors.
WA Studio KIWA: Reviving Tradition with Modern Flair
If you have a passion for fashion and sustainability, you’ll be inspired by the work of WA Studio KIWA. This talented kimono upcycling designer is known for transforming vintage kimono into contemporary fashion pieces, blending the old with the new in a way that honors tradition while embracing modern aesthetics. At the festival, KIWA will present a stunning stage performance showcasing her unique creations, and you’ll have the chance to participate in a workshop to learn about the art of kimono upcycling on Monday. This is a must-see for anyone interested in fashion, design, or Japanese culture.
Mrs. Candy-G: The Magical Candy Artist
Prepare to be amazed by Mrs. Candy-G, a candy artist who turns soft candy into adorable edible animal figures. Her intricate candy sculptures are a treat for both the eyes and the taste buds. On Friday, you’ll have the chance to participate in a balloon candy-making workshop, where you can create your own sweet masterpieces under her expert guidance. Whether you’re a kid or just a kid at heart, this is an experience that’s sure to delight.
