Hitotose’s (ひととせ) live samurai fighting show, called Tate (殺陣), is led by professional Japanese actors and katana performers Haruno Niiyama and Yuki Kedoin. Tate is a traditional Japanese performing art that combines elements of Budo (武道) and Buyo (舞踊), a traditional Japanese dance. If you’ve seen samurai movies, you’ve seen Tate in action. Haruno and Yuki also acted in the Emmy-nominated series ‘Shogun 将軍’ as the principal characters Natsu no Kata (Haruno) and Takemaru (Yuki). They teach Tate classes at the Nikkei National Museum & Cultural Centre through the Samurai Cinema Club (https://centre.nikkeiplace.org/programs/samurai-cinema-club/). They will be performing alongside their students at the Nikkei Matsuri!
