Nikkei Matsuri welcomes YOKA HANAYAGI DANCE ACADEMY and our partner country Greece!

大阪より『花柳與桂(はなやぎ・よか)舞踊アカデミー』が日       系祭り初出演!  今年のパートナー国ギリシャのダン スグループも

Internationally acclaimed YOKA HANAYAGI DANCE ACADEMY from Osaka, Japan, (15 member troupe of traditional dancers from Japan), will be performing on the stage on Saturday and lead the Bon-Odori Dance in the garden. They have been introducing Japanese traditional dance to the world, and have performed at the Melbourne, Australia’s 100th anniversary Festival, the Hong Kong Art Festival, the Paris 200th Festival, and at the Lincoln Centre in New York.  

Also featured this year, will be dancers from our partner country, Greece.

We hope you enjoy the multicultural performances in the Event Hall.

Tenrikyo Joyous Stars 
11:30am  – 12:00pm
Tenrikyo Joyous Stars is a dance group consisting of young members, from ages 5 to 11 years old. Through dance, they learn to help one another.

11:45am – 12:30pm in Garden
Sansho Daiko creates contemporary repertoire for the taiko, or Japanese drum. Recently the group has been experimenting with an improvisational form of composition to create original pieces based on the strengths and interests of the individual members.

12:30pm – 1:00pm 
The Sakura Singers were formed in 1970, directed by Mrs. Ruth Suzuki. They promote the enjoyment of Japanese songs as well as better understanding and appreciation by all Canadians pertaining to Japanese Canadian culture. For Nikkei Matsuri, they will be singing traditional songs to evoke memories of old Japan.   

RAKUICHI 晩香披 神輿の会 楽一
12:45pm – 1:15pm in Garden
Rakuichi is known for their high-energy demonstrations of omikoshi at major festivals in Greater Vancouver, including the Canada Day Parade and Powell St Festival. They also perform Shishi Mai dance with Japanese instruments.

Hanayagiyoka Nihonbuyou Academy 花柳與桂舞踊アカデミー
1:15pm – 2:00pm
Yoka Hanayogi performs in international events representing Japan. She has also worked as choreographer of Enka Singers, as well as choreographing creative Bon-odori dance. They performed at “Yoka-kai”, which was held in the national theatre involving 250 performers every year.

2:00pm – 2:30pm
Vancouver Puppet Theatre presents: Meet the Puppets!, a spectacular puppet program with masks, puppets, music and tons of laughter! Interact with different types of puppets and take a close look at their mechanisms and design after the performance. You will also be invited to take group photographs with the puppets and masks of your choice.

Anemos アネモス
2:30pm – 3:00pm
In partnership with the Messinian Brotherhood of BC, please welcome Anemos Greek Dance Group. Anemos is a local dance group founded by its members through their love of traditional Greek dance. This is their first time performing, yet most of these members have been dancing together for years. Today, Anemos will be taking you on a journey through Greece, with dances from islands and the mainland. 
この度BCのMessinian Brotherhoodとのパートナーシップにより、Anemos Greek Dance Groupが出演。 Anemosは伝統的なギリシャの踊りを愛するメンバーによって設立されたダンスグループ。 Anemosとしてはこれが初めての演奏であるが、メンバーの多くは何年も一緒にダンスをしている。 島からの踊りと本土からの踊りで、皆様をギリシャの旅へといざなう。

ROBSON 800 ロブソン800
3:00pm – 3:30pm
Robson 800 is an All Style Street Dance group based in Vancouver. Half the members are local dancers, while the other half are visitors from all over the world, but mostly Japan. Now they have over 30 members worldwide. Enjoy our 2017 Edition of Robson 800!
ロブソン800 (eight hundred)はバンクーバーが基盤のストリートダンスグループ。ほぼ半分のメンバーはバンクーバー出身の、あとは他国からも含め、主に日本出身。総勢30人以上のメンバーが世界中に在籍している。ロブソン800, 2017Editionをお楽しみに。

Bon-odori Dance by Satsuki-kai 
Saturday and Sunday in Garden, 3:00pm – 3:45pm
Satsuki-kai will lead our bon-odori dance! Beginner or professional, everyone is welcome to join. Dance in a big circle with your family and friends around the yagura.

Flamenco Japonesa フラメンコ ハポネサ
3:30pm – 4:00pm
For the past 12 years, Flamenco Japonesa has been organizing volunteer activities such as Oh-fu kaii and so on at Nikkei Home and Nikkei Place. Each member has been learning Flamenco for 6-20 years from Rosario Ancer, a well-known Flamenco artist in Vancouver.
12年前から 日系ホーム・日系プレイスでのイベント・桜楓会等、ボランティア活動をしている。 全員6年〜20年の間、バンクーバーで第一人者のRosario Ancerに師事。 ギタリストは、Flamenco
RosarioのMusic director・Victor Kolstee。

Minemoto/Arai Jazz Duo
4:00pm – 4:30pm
Sharon Minemoto: Since the age of sixteen, she has been performing to audiences around the world as a jazz pianist. She is the leader of a trio, a quartet and a quintet. Her trio and quintet have each released one CD as well as several shows for CBC Radio. 
Bernie Arai: Bernie Arai’s musical career as a performer, educator, composer and recording artist spans styles through jazz, improvised music, Japanese traditional, and electronic and computer music.
Sharon Minemoto:  16歳からジャズピアニストとして世界中でパフォーマンス。彼女はトリオ、カルテット、クインテットのリーダーであり、トリオとクインテットはCDをリリースし、CBCラジオにも出演。
Bernie Arai: 演奏家、教育者、作曲家、レコーディング・アーティ ストとしてのBernie Araiの音楽活動は、ジャズ、即興音楽、日本の 伝統音楽そして電子•コンピュータ音楽を通じてスタイルを広げてい

11:00am – 11:30am in Garden
The first children’s taiko ensemble in Canada, Chibi Taiko was formed in the fall of 1993 with the goal of passing this unique and dynamic performing art on to the next generation of Asian Canadians. The group’s philosophy emphasizes cooperation, leadership, responsibility and spirituality in addition to the physical and musical discipline needed to build a cohesive and dynamic taiko ensemble. 

Greek Performance

VAN48 performs songs by AKB48 and its sister groups but are not limited to other J-Pop groups. Their goal is to show people what the idol experience is like and spread their love for idol culture in Canada!
VAN48 は2013年に結成されたカナダBC州バンクーバーで活躍するカバーグループ。 主にAKB48とAKB姉妹グループの歌をパフォーマンスしているが、それに限らず幅広く他のJ-POPグループもカバー。自分達が愛するアイドル文化をカナダで普及させることを目指し活動している。

Wailele Waiwai (Hula Group)
ワイレレ ワイワイ(フラグループ)
12:30pm – 1:00pm
Since its founding ten years ago, this Japanese hula dance group now has 60 members. Their group name, “Wailele Waiwai,” symbolizes endless growth, like a waterfall. The members will show off Hawaiian Hula Kahiro (classical dance) as well as Auana (modern dance) at Nikkei Matsuri. 
10年前に結成。現在メンバーは60名。グループ名の“ワイレレ ワイワイ”とは、滝のように永遠の繁栄を象徴している。メンバーはハワイのフラ、カヒロ(古典ダンス)とアウアナ(モダンダンス)を披露。ダンスを通してハワイの歴史と物語が表現している。

1:00pm – 1:30pm 
The Satsuki-kai Dancing Group was formed in May 2011 to learn and enjoy Japanese dances in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere under the direction of dancing master Kayo Nishikawa of the Nishikawa School of classical Japanese dancing. They have given numerous performances on a variety of stages and senior homes.

Jive Jive Kimono Fashion Show 
Jive Jive has had a lot of wonderful customers since 2011 when they opened. Thanks to these loyal customers, they were able to celebrate their 6th anniversary last year. Their salon has a friendly atmosphere with all staff saying “Welcome back!” to all customers and they answer “It is like home!” They will hold a traditional and modern Kimono show in Nikkei Matsuri. 

Vancouver OKINAWA TAIKO 沖縄太鼓
3:20pm – 3:50pm
Vancouver Okinawa Taiko has been performing in numerous cultural festivals, charity functions and anniversary events for over a decade. The group’s aim is to promote and preserve Okinawan style drum-dancing Eisa, and to share Okinawan cultural heritage. Our membership consists of a mix of several generations to reflect presentation of grassroots folk art.
バンクーバー沖縄太鼓は多数 の文化祭、慈善事業、記念日のイベント等で沖縄独特の太鼓踊り「エイサー」を過去10年以上演舞。沖縄の芸能を次世代に伝承し、エイサーを通して沖縄文化を分かち合う事を目標としている。メンバーは様々な世代で構成され、草の根の民族芸能を表現する。

Koto ensemble 琴アンサンブル
4:00pm – 4:30pm
The Koto Ensemble frequently provides showcases at community events and at seniors’ homes. They gather all those who enjoy the sound of the Koto and provide a warm and fun environment. They are always looking for those who are interested, so don’t hesitate to join and to learn more about the Koto or the group.

Drum Boyz ドラムボーイズ
5:00pm – 5:10pm
Drum Boyz are the Champion of 2016 Matsuri Star Talent Search. They’re back to perform with their championship drum skills.
